PostMy Corsair H50 CPU Cooler Experience

This is my main computer, I built it this time last year:

Case: Cooler Master Cosmos S
Power Supply: Antec NeoPower 650
Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe
CPU: Intel Core i7 920 (C0 Stepping)
RAM: 3GB Corsair DDR3 1333MHz (tr3×3g1333c9)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX, temporarily only one, normally x2 in SLi, explanation below
Hard Drives: 1x 60GB OCZ Vertex (running firmware 1.40 (TRIM)), 1x 500GB Seagate 702.11 (running fixed firmware)
Other Drives: ASUS 20x SATA DVD Burner

Over past few months the fan on my Intel Core i7 stock CPU cooler started failing, the fan initially halved in fan speed, then slowly lost ~50rpm per week while my CPU temp crept up, fan control was off and there was nothing blocking the fan from physically moving, so I decided to replace it.

PostCaring for your Notebook/Laptop – Hardware Maintenance

March 26, 2009 – 6:06 pm

There aren’t that many people who feel comfortable replacing a part, or giving basic maintenance to a desktop PC, over the years PC parts have been made easier to be replaced, with only a few disassemble steps necessary to replace even the hardest component. Laptop computers have however been a no-go zone for many people who commonly replace PC parts, due to the complex disassemble instructions, higher risk of damage and general fiddliness due to the small parts. This guide is mainly for people who are familiar with PC part replacement/maintenance but haven’t had experience with a laptop.

PostSanctuary loves Perth again

October 2, 2008 – 6:16 pm

This is a little offtopic, but this is the second time Sanctuary has put parts of our Perth in their CG backgrounds, you can see the original here.

Central Park

The last time they did this was at the start of one of their web episodes, click it to view a close up, Central Park and Bankwest are in the top left, they didn’t even remove the Bankwest logo.

PostNew Wallet, It’s DynoMIGHTY!

Tyvek Wallet

So I just bought this new wallet and tit has obvious cool factor with that Dot Matrix look containing Pi to 3,000 places, it’s the perfect addition to my accessories.

It might look like paper, but it’s made from Tyvek, a type of plastic that’s used for various industrial purposes, it’s tear resistant, water resistant and is very light.

Here’s a video from the makers of the wallet.

PostUpdate for Servage Referral Widget etc

Last night after over an hour of coding I was able to finish version 1.2, the new version is able to count how many times a user clicks the link, then report it in the Widget control panel. I might make an option later to report it under the widget, or in the Dashboard.

Google Analytics is quite a handy tool to see who reads my site and for what purpose, the Webmaster Tools is also great, however I am noticing the search ranking isn’t very accurate for some reason.

In other news I went out half way through writing this entry, the slimline sets of Mythbusters seasons appear to be slowly coming out, I got my copy of Season 1 today.

I also just bought the spamannoys.me domain, mainly for e-mail of course.

PostGoogle Suggest/Trends, theme editing, FileZilla issue

July 12, 2008 – 8:06 pm

http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en
This is now my homepage, it is extremely handy, plus it’s slightly less bloated than the default Firefox search page, trends http://www.google.com/trends is quite interesting to have a look at as well.

Thanks to http://www.blogohblog.com/, http://www.dyers.org/blog/archives/2008/05/21/how-to-add-avatars-to-your-wordpress-25-theme/ and Jason I was able to fix some issues I was having with the Gravatar section of the theme which is by default not supported, the code at first didn’t work I figure because it was incorrectly detecting the WordPress version as something less than 2.5 however there was a </div> that had no starting tag which caused the theme style to get messed up also, after fixing those the Gravatars work fine now.

I have been experiencing a ‘DDE execute request failed’ error in FileZilla 3 when choosing to view/edit files regardless of the fact that it does appear to view/edit the file perfectly fine, there doesn’t appear to be any information that I can find about it when searching around.
I managed to stop it appearing by setting a default text editor, choosing ‘Always use default editor’ and unchecking ‘Inherit system’s file-type associations’, must be a Vista/FileZilla/TextPad/UAC thing.

I received my Windows Vista upgrade advisor shirt not long ago, it’s very well made but I don’t think I’ll be wearing it anywhere anytime soon.

I just found out what a post slug is…

PostUpdate

July 10, 2008 – 1:11 am

1. A simple WordPress update to version 2.5.1, everything working great, also realised (I prefer the Latin ‘ised’, you’re not going to confuse me this time spell checker!) I skipped an important file when updating last time according to the upgrade guide, no harm done though.

2. New theme by ‘Bob’, it’s very white and makes a change from the previous 2 themes, much more professional IMO, well done ‘Bob’.

3. I love Windows Live Writer, it makes this so much easier, you must try it http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com

4. I’ve bought many more things on eBay, also the next part of the OS Collection is coming soon.

5. I started getting that display driver has stopped responding error the other day, reseated the card, cleared the carpet of dust around everything and it went away, so much for the scary omen everybody seems to think it is, it was really just letting me know that I should take better care of my PC.

6. There’s a bit of rain around
IDR122

7. Numbered points might seem stupid but they are giving structure to random things that don’t go well together like…

8. That’s right, eBay now stocks… ebayjew

I have been buying alot of eBay lately, it’s not that it’s expensive, it’s that it can in theory have no end, so I have to show some restraint. But i’d like to show some of the things that I have bought off eBay recently.

PlayStation SCPH 1002
I actually had one of these at one stage so I thought I would buy another so that I could own a PlayStation, a PlayStation 2, a PSP and a PlayStation 3, complete the collection

The box it came in, as new

You can't beat the original

You can’t beat the original

This one appears to work perfectly, perhaps even better than my old one, though at this stage my PS games are elsewhere (as is my PS2) and I only had one game to test so I don’t know exactly how it goes with FMVs etc.

Stargate SG-1 200th episode poster
I don’t know if it looks small here…

But it really is damn small.

But it really is damn small.

It’s still cool though, it’ll go up as soon as I find a spot for it.

Stargate Extended Cut on Bluray

You don't wanna know how long it took to take a non-glare photo

You don’t wanna know how long it took to take a non-glare photo

This is the nicest quality picture I have seen yet on a Bluray title, they really went all out on the quality aspect here, I was disappointed at the lack of any special features though.

On the subject – Stargate poster #2
It is huge, a great catch, it’s my second favourite thing in this list

Perfect

Perfect

The Nintendo
This was a good find, all boxed, in as close as I know to original condition, the seller didn’t know it works, but it does, it works better than any Nintendo I have used, it appears to not have been used that much for playing, has quite a bit of scratching though.

Here's the box

Here’s the box

What is that?

What is that?

Yep, Anticipation gets the box, this gets nothing

Can you guess what this is?

I can't figure out how to get this stuff packed away correctly either

Well that’s it for now.
