PostD-Link SharePort Update

Update: D-Link has released a new firmware for the DIR-655 here, it contains a version of SharePort that is newer than SX Virtual Link.

I haven’t been following D-Link’s SharePort fiasco since the first few months of my previous blog posting about it here. This is due to the fact that as many users have experienced since the original release it appears to have gained more and more bugs in each new version and we only occasionally see them being fixed.

A forum post in the official D-Link forums about the Apple OSX users of the software pointed me to the fact that the drivers and software used to connect to the router appears to have been made by a company called Silex Technology.

I searched around and found SX-Virtual Link, the original name of the D-Link SharePort Utility, upon downloading and installing the latest version 3.2.3 I found that the application was the same as the SharePort Utility except for the branding and the version. D-Link’s latest SharePort Utility has the date 2009/01/06 and theirs is 2009/02/02, there is also a major version difference, the specific version number for the utility/drivers with SharePort is version 4.9.5 and SX-Virtual Link is up to version 5.3.0.

Upon using the utility I had no problems at all connecting to my D-Link DIR-655’s device, I used a wireless mouse to test the functionality and it worked flawlessly for some time, so I am encouraging users who currently have issues with SharePort to uninstall it and install SX-Virtual Link and see if it fixes any of the issues you are currently having with your devices.

For OSX users I have not been able to test out the OSX version and I am unaware of any changes you might need to make to get it working but I will provide a link below for those users to test if they so wish.

You can get the latest version of SX-Virtual Link just below:

These are updated versions (3.4.0) 31/12/2009

SX Virtual Link 3.4.0 Windows
SX Virtual Link 3.3.0 Mac OSX

PostNew Windows 7 Screenshots at ThinkNext

September 20, 2008 – 9:39 pm

Looks like ThinkNext have their hands on a copy of the 6780 (M3) build of Windows 7 and have show much more of Windows 7 than we have been able to see recently. You can view them here. The screenshots have now been taken down by Microsoft: http://www.thinknext.net/archives/2281.

Going by looks, not much has changed since Vista yet, however it seems a bit glassier, apart from the changes I have mentioned previously Calculator has had a face lift in what I can only say is a good move.

It looks as though the Control Panel items have undergone a change again, though in most cases they are still fundamentally the same.

Internet Explorer 8 is included, not much of a surprise there, it should be fairly complete by the time Windows 7 is out of Beta.

Most importantly UAC appears to have been toned down extensively in Windows 7, hopefully that doesn’t compromise on the security that was originally intended.

Not much info yet, however they intend on releasing a video soon.

This is not a necessary upgrade, all I have done is updated the URL in certain parts of the widget and readme to reference the new domain. Download Here.

PostNew Wallet, It’s DynoMIGHTY!

Tyvek Wallet

So I just bought this new wallet and tit has obvious cool factor with that Dot Matrix look containing Pi to 3,000 places, it’s the perfect addition to my accessories.

It might look like paper, but it’s made from Tyvek, a type of plastic that’s used for various industrial purposes, it’s tear resistant, water resistant and is very light.

Here’s a video from the makers of the wallet.

I have been buying alot of eBay lately, it’s not that it’s expensive, it’s that it can in theory have no end, so I have to show some restraint. But i’d like to show some of the things that I have bought off eBay recently.

PlayStation SCPH 1002
I actually had one of these at one stage so I thought I would buy another so that I could own a PlayStation, a PlayStation 2, a PSP and a PlayStation 3, complete the collection

This one appears to work perfectly, perhaps even better than my old one, though at this stage my PS games are elsewhere (as is my PS2) and I only had one game to test so I don’t know exactly how it goes with FMVs etc.

Stargate SG-1 200th episode poster
I don’t know if it looks small here…

But it really is damn small.

But it really is damn small.

It’s still cool though, it’ll go up as soon as I find a spot for it.

Stargate Extended Cut on Bluray

This is the nicest quality picture I have seen yet on a Bluray title, they really went all out on the quality aspect here, I was disappointed at the lack of any special features though.

On the subject – Stargate poster #2
It is huge, a great catch, it’s my second favourite thing in this list

Perfect

The Nintendo
This was a good find, all boxed, in as close as I know to original condition, the seller didn’t know it works, but it does, it works better than any Nintendo I have used, it appears to not have been used that much for playing, has quite a bit of scratching though.

Here's the box

Yep, Anticipation gets the box, this gets nothing
